This piece was written on 16 May 2018, the 75th Anniversary of the Dam Busters raid. Sadly, strong winds prevented the historic Lancaster bomber from taking part in today's events, so I thought you might like to see a few of my own images from the 50th Anniversary. I was at the Derwent Dam on that occasion covering the Red Arrows participation and the whole event was covered live by Central TV. Several thousands of spectators were gathered on both sides of the valley. I was on top of one of the towers of the Derwent Dam infrastructure - an ideal place to watch. The Lancaster made three circuits of the Dam on that occasion.
I also took a pic of the Red Arrows Manager and photographer - at their request - as they awaited the arrival of the nine Red Arrows.
...but I didn't expect to get this one a few seconds later...
Below: The media were out in force and some of the then surviving Dam Busters were being interviewed live on TV in between the flying action.
My stories of the 50th Anniversary start on this page.
